We received some rather impressive entries in our v6 EAP competition to win an iPad mini, but the one that really stood out to our judging panel was solarsystem.moonfruit.com by Nomis Parfitt.
Offering a comprehensive guide to the solar system, this bold website topped the list for sheer effort, ingenuity and putting the v6 features to the test with plenty of interactive and easy-to-navigate content.
Take the custom-designed planet menu for example (shown above). Click on each planet and you’re presented with an overview using the new Lightbox image gallery and video widget – great when browsing on an iPad.
The site also makes use of the twitter widget, with a feed from NASA, no less.
The lucky winner said:
“I wanted to build something that was easy to navigate and looked nice on PCs, Macs and mobile devices. Mobile device visitors were very much the forefront of my design. I also wanted the site to look clean and colourful.”
“Using the new v6 editor was so much fun and really easy to use. It’s so impressive. I wanted to design something to show off all of its features and the fact it’s HTML5-compatible means the site can also look awesome on mobile devices. I’m really looking forward to creating many more sites using the v6 editor. Thank you so much Moonfruit!”
The best features of the new v6, he adds, are the improved page load times, title fonts, mobile view, Lightbox image gallery, and “the overall feel of creating and editing a site”.
