Nominet introduces new privacy guidelines for .uk domains

More changes for .uk domains, courtesy of Nominet.

The domain registry have introduced new guidelines in regards to the information required to be shown in the Who Is database. Specifically the information of .uk owners who are trading individuals or businesses.

Previously, any one could opt-out of having their contact information displayed in the Who Is database. Whilst it was required the owners name, it was possible to hide your personal address and contact number.

The new rule means that if you are using your website for a business (earning revenue) then it is now required that your contact details are shown on the Who Is database also.

Personal domains should not be affected.

You can find the official Nominet information here.

And The Guardian has put together an interesting discussion piece about the topic here.
