Moonfruit ShopBuilder launch event with PayPal
Well well, the big day is finally coming. After many months of work the Moonfruit ShopBuilder is finally going to hit the streets on Oct 19 2011. And what better way to do it than with a launch event with our good friends PayPal and Start-up Britain, and of course you - our lovely customers!
Our new ShopBuilder tool will be seamlessly integrated into our existing Moonfruit technology so will form a natural extension to your site. We wanted to make something that would not only work in Moonfruit, but take away the pain of building multiple shops on different channels – so you can really just 'publish once, be everywhere' - on web, mobile and Facebook.

We've been working in partnership with PayPal to get the payment process running with their most up to date tools. Our integration means that you can start trading immediately with just an email address. Also using PayPal's Express Checkout your customers will get a slick payment process that is optimised for web and mobile.
We also know how important it is to support small business and keep them trading in these difficult economic times, which is why StartUp Britain have been keen to get involved and support our launch. Both PayPal and StartUp Britain will have speakers at the event offering their insight into fighting for customers in a global online marketplace.
Oooh, intriguing. So why not come to our launch event to find out what it's all about. It's a great opportunity to meet the Moonfruit team, including me, our CEO Wendy and CTO Eirik, our designers and developers, take part in a few workshops for some hints and tips, and chew the fat. It'll be held at PayPal's offices in Richmond (UK) on Oct 19th starting from 3pm with drinks to follow. Tickets are limited and free, so we'd love to see you there if you're interested in selling on web, mobile and social.

For those that are really excited to get started keep an eye out for the shop beta group which will open soon and allow you to get hold of an early release to play with and provide feedback.
So that's it for now. We hope to see you at the event and we'll let you know how it goes!

We currently use romancart for payments that integrates with your site well and they offer paypal through that.
We would be interested in this but would it still integrate with romancart.
Also would you not be able to do a northern event as well, as we cant get to a midweek london event.
Hi Dean, at present the shop is still in its infancy. We will expand, develop and look for suitable platforms with which the shop can integrate over the coming months and into next year. We have already earmarked eBay and others as partners but I can't say whether we could integrate with RomanCart. But who knows it certainly may be something we look at.
What you could do is run our Shop in parallel and see how it works. Comparison feedback would certainly be welcome.
As far as the Launch is concerned we'd love to go on tour. But at present the timetable that we have just doesn't make that possible. Thanks for the comments.
Walt
Just having a play with the beta but can't see how I get the products live on the site. Am I missing something glaringly obvious?
Hi Neil,
What steps have you taken to add the shop and products? And how are you checking?
If you can bullet point your steps (with detail) then I may be able to assist.
In the meantime have a look at some basic FAQs on the Forum (please log in to view) to see if that helps. You simply need to add the shop page, create the shop, add products and as long as you can view a list of products through the Manage Products page (and your page is visible to the public) they'll be visible.
Thanks,
Walt
I was being daft Walt - cheers anyway!
No worries Neil. Happens to the best of us ;)
Glad you got it sorted.
Walt
Hi,
I'm currently trying out the Beta shop, just wondering how I can change the postage costs, link my PayPal account etc?
Also under shop, settings there is a box for 'email for receiving payment' a bit unclear as to what email I'm supposed to put here?
Thank you,
Lauren
Hi,
Why I could not see all supported currencies in shop Beta, I have come up with this issue earlier and you guys told that you will add all supported currencies in shop beta. Now ı could not see Turkish Lira in Paypal setup. Please add Turkish Lira in to your shop beta. İt is already supported currency by paypal I dont think it would be something diffuult. Please add this option
Hi Lauren, Please check the Forum. Gary's replied to your post.
Pijjama, would you mind posting your request in the Wishlist forum please. That way we'll keep all requests in one place, along with Questions, Issues and Feedback.
Thanks
Walt
How do you setup the facebook shop part as i click the sign in to customise page, but it will not let me do anything

Where is the new shop function? it hasn't appeared on my dashboard at all, am I missing something?
So I see people are already checking out beta. I would like to try the beta version , how do I do this?
Hi guys,
Visit following link to try shop beta;

You will see all detail here
Hi Guys
Is this shop front unable to be used until 19th october.I ran it but when I switched to view website it wouldnt integrate?..
Guys
Can anyone help please?
I have lost my menu bar after I changed its appearance in edit view.I pressed rescale and its gone completely,yet when i go to the page organiser all my pages and subpages are still there, they are just invisible when editing or viewing my website.Have been stuck for hours can someone help please? loosing time here on this.Very very frustrated now!! :-{{
Hi Nikki, no its available now and I can see you've added a shop page and an item already. Not sure what you mean by won't integrate but if you could drop your issues on Shop Beta Forum then we can collate details there:
http://support.moonfruit.com/catego...
Also, menu is present if a little small. It's currently set to 72.8% which is a bit small. All you need do - though I suspect you're half way there already - is to use Design > Menu > Reposition and Scale and then amend the size and location through the X & Y co-ordinates and Width/Height options.
Thanks
Walt
Wow, I love those t-shirts, is that an actual shop?!
Wow, i'm excited about meeting the founder of moonfruit!!! Count me in!
@t18creative, unfortunately that shop is completely fictional. Our designer grabbed some iStock photos and simply added some nice designs with Xara (like Photoshop). Though, he was quite chuffed you liked the t-shirts :)
@Vanessa: well hope you grabbed a ticket!
Hi Walt
Thank you for your solution to my problem. It was fixed straight away following your recommendations!Brilliant!! :]
Nikki
I am trying to get the shopping cart etc setup on my site, I'm wandering if its worth it if u are going to have a new one in ten days? I can hardly understand how to do the one you have anyways...
Hi Mizzymoo, we aren't replacing it with a new one we're releasing new features. If you're not sure how to use the Shop please have a read of our Questions/Answers on the Forum:
http://support.moonfruit.com/catego...
You just need to login to your account on Moonfruit to view them.
If you have questions that haven't already been asked, feel free add them so that we can provide a suitable answer/solution. But we have covered most areas on how to add shop page, add products and then manage your shop.
Thanks
Walt
Hi, I am very confused! Please can someone help! I have tested the Shop tool and can only seem to create a new product I can't see where the product goes after this or cannot work out how to add it in to my website?
Please can you also advise how to use the customise checkout option which has been mentioned as I cannot see any sign of this?
Many Thanks!
Hi Courtney,
You've already created a shop page so it is on your site. In fact I can see you've made it your landing/home page and then hidden your original home page. This you can check through Pages (Toolbar > Pages > Organise Pages)
Using the Shop icon on the toolbar allows you to add products, manage products and change settings. If you want to edit each element of your Shop use the drop down in the centre of the toolbar. This will give you access to the individual pages: Product Catalogue, Product Detail, Shopping Cart and Sent Confirmation.
If you then click on any element on the page e.g. basket, checkout, confirmation etc. you can then modify how it appears through the editor. You may need to double click some items to enable edit mode. Save and then use the View site option to test how it looks.
You can have each of these pages looking slightly different if you like or all the same but it will pull through the catalogue items you've set up through the Shop tool directly.

My issue is a little different because I don't sell "products" per-say; I sell "services".
I sell a "Task/To-Do" service where my clients order how many tasks they need for us to do. I noticed that there is no quantity option.
Is there a way to change the quantity when ordering?
I hate to say it, but as it stands the shop does not have the features required to make it a pertinent choice for an Ecommerce site. Categories, sizes, quantities, stock inventory, postage variation and search are all absolute requirements for a successful online store. There is little improvement over the existing PayPal button payment system.
Having patiently waited for quite a few years for this feature I find it extremely disappointing, and unless it improves dramatically I personally can find no use for it. Hopefully over the coming weeks these essential features will become available.
Cowboy
Hi Shanae, Quantity options are coming but first we're working on getting Categories out the door within the next few weeks.
Hi Cowboy, we've not hidden the fact that the Shop Beta has some limitations, though features are being rolled out every few weeks. I agree many customers have waited for sometime for e-Commerce features and we're now working to redress that. Faced with a choice of holding back until it's fully featured or releasing in a limited Beta version we went with the latter. This would allow us to gather feedback and get it out the door sooner, while we work on adding features.
Many customers have already been using it and giving us great feedback but we understand the need for more features and that is exactly what we're working on. We are listening to customers by giving them a chance to voice and vote for specific features in the Shop Beta Wishlist: http://support.moonfruit.com/forums...
As highlighted above Categories is next and we're collating feedback on postage variations, sizing etc. So please feel free to contribute to the discussion so we get a good idea of what our customers really want in their shop.
Thanks,
Walt
Hi I have a couple of questions about the new shop feature,
I will be selling radio drops (vocal intros) and would need the buyer to have a box where they could enter what they would like the intro to say, I would need them individually on each product page. I have tried by using a form for them to fill in but that form shows on all product pages when I would need a different form for each product.
Plus I will be selling downloads is there going to be anything added which would give buyers access to a download link for a set period after purchase?
Similar to what they use at imo downloads?
Thanks,
Hi,
does anyone else have problems when trying to add/edit the meta data on the shop(or indeed, on any page)? every time i try to edit this element i'm lucky if i get a whole sentence in before the whole site (flash player)crashes...wonder if it is just me or a problem with moonfruit generally.
Also, have added some shop products to my facebook page (great feature, btw) but notice when clicked 'cannot use this feature' pops up.....
any ideas?
rehards,
Soo. x
ok i've had a play with the shop and answered my own question, lol (was having a blonde moment i think!),all sorted now.
but would still appreciate anyone else feedback on the editing meta tags thing, its really frustrating.
hello, how do I update from the beta?
Hi kennyk, at present that isn't possible. Offering digital downloads has been requested and is on our list.
Soo, is it keywords or description? Can you give us an example of what your typing in, where, and what happens.
Cameron-Lee, you can't. The ShopBuilder is currently on open Beta. This doesn't mean you have less functionality, only that it's fresh, new and may have some bugs which we will try to fix as quickly as possible.
Thanks,
Walt
Hey guys,
Just a quick question regarding the store. Can you adjust the image orientation as i have uploaded portrait images and they are being cropped to landscape images: See here: http://rmwlandscape.moonfruit.com/#...
Cheers,
Robert
Hi Guys, with the new shop element, can we add details such as choice of colours / sizes etc for people to choose from then purchase?? Just thinking with eg above the T-shirts, where is there the settings for you to add various colours and sizes etc
Many thanks
Oh, I need to add different print sizes and therfor different prices to the same product/image?
Cheers.
Hello, I've started using Moonfruit, it's easy to use and customize. But I don' understand how a shopping cart can not allow for quantities! This is a major floor for me. Do you really expect sellers to offer one of everything and not to provide the option to have more than one? I know people can continue shopping and select the same item again, but this is
hardly encouraging customers is it? I want to continue with Moonfruit, so I find this frustrating.
Hi Robert, not in the Catalog or product section. We use a best fit process to ensure all images are presented with the Catalog section in a neat and uniform way.
The visitor when clicking on the image in the Product section will cause the light box to appear and this will present the image in it's proper orientation and aspect.
With regards product variation (sizes, prices etc) we are working on this once we deliver categories early next month.
Snowleopard, as with my reply to Robert above, variations is coming. We know how important this is so it is on our list.
Paul, it's not a floor. Its a Beta Shop. We were faced with getting it out in a very light basic format with a view to adding features over the coming months or our customers waiting another 6 months for the fully featured shop. We went with the former to get it out, get feedback, and to enable lighter users to generate business. As with comments to Robert and Snowleopard above it's on our list.
Please do have a look around our ShopBuilder FAQ and the Wishlist [ http://support.moonfruit.com/forums... ] to see what has been asked for and voted for (and add your vote). So please bear with us, we're trying to add features as quickly as we can.
Thanks for your patience.
Walt
Not great, Can you not include keep aspect ratio like with the gallery?... Which is also due an update!
Hi Robert, we may be able to down the line but we have other features to get into the Shop first. Please do add this request with as much detail to our Shop Wishlist and this will us and the dev team priortise future work on the Shop: http://support.moonfruit.com/forums...
Thanks
Walt
I can't find the wishlist in the new forum...so I'll tell you here: I'm LOVING LOVING LOVING IT!!! I have an idea of a way to improve it for the small businesses with custom and limited run stock...I PROPOSE PUTTING A QUANTITY CAP OPTION for items that are limited run or one of a kind that automatically says SOLD OUT when the cap is reached. AGAIN, I'M LOVING IT!
Hi Amanda,
We're glad to hear that you like it! We are currently working on adding the ability set stock levels for items - this should be added soon.
HTH,
Gary
Hey,
I'm really glad that this update has been added to the platform of MOONFRUIT!!!
any idea of what new features will be added, and when we can expect to see them?
Thanks!!!
Julian
Hi Julian,
We're glad to hear that you like it. We have a list of upcoming features here:
http://support.moonfruit.com/entrie...
HTH,
Gary
@Walt, apologies for delayed response (i'm pleased to say i have been very busy, lol!)-
the problem i mentioned earlier happens every time i attempt to add/edit meta data. all is fine whilst editing the description but as soon as i try to edit meta tags the whole thing crashes, and its the same whether i am editing the page, blog and now shop, meta tags.
It's got to the stage where i have given up editing these parts of my site, which obviously is annoying from an SEO point of view.
Hi I would like to allow discounts on checking out, will that be possible with the shop feature?
Hi there,
After playing around with the shop feature I have to say that I am very impressed with the ease in which you can set up a shop but there are limitations like Categories, Size or qty options and postage variations. Are there any plans to allow any of the features above or will it just be a basic eCommerce site?
Moonfruit I love you but...
Shops need Categories : need Products, Products need Sizes : need Colours, Colours needs Prices : need Postage : Postage needs Choices: UK EU World Express. Please we have waited sooooooooooo long.
I still love you :x
Hi all,
Soo: Have you sent a ticket through to Support about this? We know it is affecting some people, but have been having trouble isolating the problem, so any extra information is always helpful!
Sharon: Yes, this is something that we are looking at introducing in the near future.
Glenn: All three of the things you mention are on the way :)
Hazeyfantasey: As above.
If you want to keep an eye on what is being developed for ShopBuilder, we are keeping the following page updated:
http://support.moonfruit.com/entrie...
HTH,
Gary
I love the new shop and have already listed a couple of items just 2 things really my pics seem quite big in the boxes is there away of changing them in size in the box? and also I do not seem to have a link or so in Facebook so unable to add a facebook page does it need to be the same email address you use for facebook as if so i use a different one for that and for my Moonfruit.. anyway loving the new updates and can not wait to get some spare money for your goodies in shop cheers Andy loyal paying customer since 2003 :--)
Hi Andy,
It isn't possible to change the display size of the images at the moment, but you can change the size of the crop that is shown - you can do this by double-clicking on the shop widget, double-clicking again to activate the layer that contains the image, and then selecting the image and resizing to suit. To add a shop to your Facebook page, you need to have Facebook enabled through People -> Settings.
HTH,
Gary
Hi Gary
Thanks for the info will have a potter around with your says :-)
PLEASE TELL ME WHEN YOU ARE ADDING QUANITITES - IM TRYING TO SELL WEDDING INVITES AND THIS IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE, AS MOST PEOPLE HAVE MORE THAN ONE GUEST AT THEIR WEDDING - TELL ME WHEN OR I WILL HAVE TO STOP USING AND ASK FOR MY MONNEY BACK FOR THIS "ECOMMERCE" UPGRADE.
Hi Sam,
Quantities are currently under active development, and this feature should be added within the next two weeks.
HTH,
Gary
Hi,
How can I give customers the choice of choosing variants of my products?
Thanks
Hi,
That's actually covered in a later blog post:
