How to: Create a Facebook shop in 7 easy steps
If you own a business, you probably already have a Facebook page for it, but have you considered using it to promote and sell your products and services? Here we explain why it’s a savvy move and how easy it is to create one using your Moonfruit website...
In this age of information, customers expect to be able to find you everywhere - not only on your website but through mobile devices and social media too.
And when it comes to social media, Facebook rules the roost. With a daily average of 618 million active users, it's the world’s largest social media platform.
Why set up a Facebook Shop?
It’s predicted that, by 2015, 50% of all online transactions ($30 billion a year) will take place via social media channels. Facebook shops aren't just for the big corporations either - revenue from social commerce among SMBs (small to medium businesses) grew 38% in the last quarter of 2012.
The increasing popularity of the Facebook mobile app (which has released users from the constraints of the desktop) also means that users are accessing it even more frequently – up to 13.8 times a day on average. When you consider that this means we use Facebook for roughly a fifth of all time spent communicating, you might wonder why you hadn't capitalised on Facebook's commercial opportunities sooner.
Creating a Facebook shop for your Moonfruit site couldn't be easier - see our step-by-step guide below to find out how (if your site was built in our v5 software, see the link provided at the bottom of this post as the steps are a little different).
Before you start:
• If you don't already have a Facebook page set up for your website or business, start one and include all the information a new visitor will want to know including a short description of what you do and sell along with a profile picture or logo and any other images that give a sense of what you're about
• Your Facebook shop will aggregate content from your Moonfruit online shop, so you'll need to have some products and content to work with in your Moonfruit site
• Take time to ensure your product titles and prices are accurate and that the item descriptions are as engaging as they can be
Here’s how you do it:
Step 1. Log in to your Moonfruit site and click the Shop icon on the main tool bar.
Step 2. Switch to the Settings view from Product List.
Step 3. Select Facebook Shop from the left-hand column.
Step 4. Click Sign in, enter your Facebook details and complete the login process.
Note: Once you’re successfully signed in, you’ll see a ‘permission granted’ notice and a green tick.
Step 5. Below this, click Connect to set up your Facebook shop – you’ll be given the option to select which page you’d like to connect your shop to (or to create a new page).
Click OK once you’ve selected and if you don't already have a page, select the option to create one and follow the instructions on Facebook, before returning to the beginning of Step 5.
Note: You can create as many pages as you like from one Facebook account (Facebook has no limit) but you can only add one shop per page. You can disconnect the shop or change the Facebook page it’s linked to at any time.
Step 6. Your Facebook shop is now live (albeit a little bare)! Click View Facebook shop (above the preview image) to see it in action.
Step 7. Now it’s time to customise your Facebook shop by giving it a name, icon, headline message and banner image - put your brand stamp on it...
Note: The Facebook shop will automatically mimic your website shop - the product details and categories will reflect those on your main shop and all transactions via your Facebook shop will be managed through your website as normal.
