New in v6: Contact Form (Beta)

As promised in our December update, we’re happy to announce the release of the contact form (beta) in v6. This was the most requested feature in v6, so we’re chuffed that we can now make it available to you.

It’s important to note that this is a beta release. Beta things are never as fun as the shiny, polished versions (think Eliza Doolittle pre Henry Higgins). But the form, which will continue to be developed over the coming weeks and months, does what it says on the tin.

The new Contact Form can be inserted onto any page on your site with the swift click of a button.

Once submitted through your site, an email is then ferried over the internet with the contents arriving promptly in the Site Owner’s inbox.

Here’s how it works:

Adding a Contact Form:

To add a contact form, login to your site, click on ‘Insert’ on the main editing tool bar and select ‘Contact Form (beta)’ from the left hand side.

Much easier than saying ‘The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain’ with a mouth full of marbles, right?

Editing contact forms:

Forms can be resized by dragging the corners but we’ve not yet added the ability to change colours, fonts, shapes, borders etc. That stuff is on the way.

At the moment we’ve got three fields (Name, Email Address and Message). These can’t be edited (yet) and all three need to be filled in, else your form won’t send.

Changing the recipient address:

You can view who the form submissions will be emailed to by clicking on the ‘Data’ tab on the floating editor panel – at present it defaults to the Site Owner email address.

To change the email address that collects the forms, you will have to click on ‘Admin’, then ‘Site Information’ and change the email address there. Please note that all services reliant on the site email address to contact you (e.g. ‘Stock Notifications’) will be affected by the change.

What can I use the form for?

While you can’t edit the three fields just yet, you can give your form context within the page depending on what you want to use it for. Want feedback on products on your site? Ask for it. Rely on site visitors for ideas on how to improve the delicious cakes you bake? Tell them to send you a message. Aiming to send out a monthly newsletter? The contact form can be used to collect names and email addresses, enabling you to do just that.

In our December technical update we mentioned that we’d be releasing other features over the coming months. Here’s what we’ve got in the pipeline:

It’s not quite ready for the ‘By George, we really did it’ fanfare, but as we said above, more bells and whistles are on the way. We like to think Professor Higgins would be proud.

    PLEASE can you speed up the possibility to edit the Contact Form? I need to add some crucial fields (date for event, phone number, best time to contact) and find it incredible that this should be so complicated. Sometimes clients make a typing error in the email field and I have no way to contact them.

    Any updates?

      Hi Lucia

      You can add as many fields as you want in the Contact Form. You just have to double click twice in the form while you’re editing. You should see a grey bar with a plus sign and you can add extra fields from here. If you are having trouble, please contact customer support.

    when i click on dowload data, nothing happpens and i do not recieve the data from the form.

        Re Contact Form – I can’t get it to work at all – and there’s no sign of the beta version promised when you click insert. Without a form and having to publish my email address, I’m vulnerable to spammers.

    is there a way to redirect a customer to a particular page once they have pressed ‘submit’ ?

    How do I edit the order form to state a specific message AFTER the viewer has submitted their details (rather than the default ‘Thank you – Submit another email’)
