• Drive traffic to any web page, offer, product or service, at any time of the day
• Pitch multiple products at once
1. Produce a lead magnet
A lead magnet is usually valuable information or a service that you would give away in exchange for an email address. This might be a resource list or cheat sheet, a free consultation or sample of your product, sales material such as a catalog, or a coupon code. By creating a high-quality lead magnet, you are not only using it to grow your list, you’re also warming up prospective customers by supplying them with something useful.
If you decide to create a resource list, bear in mind this doesn’t have to be time-consuming to create; as long as it solves a problem, your lead magnet could be a single page long. Before you start, you can break it down into three key steps:
- Identify a problem
- Give a step by step solution for that problem
- Explain the benefits of solving the problem
2. Create a squeeze page
A squeeze page is a webpage with the sole intention of obtaining your prospect’s email address. This page essentially needs to pre-sell the free lead magnet.
If you’re offering a resource list or cheat sheet, the page copy should touch all of the pain points of the reader and explain how solving this problem can change their life. Don’t be scared to hire a professional copywriter and designer to create your squeeze page, especially if you’re going to be driving high quality paid traffic to the page.
Of course, a traditional opt-in form (the form where people enter their email in exchange for the lead magnet) placed on your main website can still be highly effective, especially with a strong call to action.
3. Gather email addresses in person
Gathering email addresses in face to face situations is vastly overlooked because email is strongly associated with online. However, obtaining email addresses in person can be a great way to attract a different type of customer or client. Whether you hire sales people working on commission, attend networking events and conferences, or simply try to obtain as many business cards as possible; obtaining email addresses offline is a fantastic way to develop your list.
Once your mailing list starts to grow, it’s time to think about your email marketing strategy and how you’ll reach out to your prospective customers.
